Hello everybody!! 大家好 (Dàjiā hǎo)

Today Affy showed you about how to pronounce months in Chinese. Firstly, we need to learn basic Chinese number 1-12 as well as the word “month”.

Let’s get started!  我们开始吧 (wǒmen kāishǐ ba)

monthMonth in Chinese is 月 Yuè. Compared with English, Mandarin is incredibly easier, we apply numbers instead of distinctive names for each one. January is known as a first month of the year as well as December is the 12th one, the last one, thus January is 一月 Yī yuè?, April is 四月Sì yuè because it’s the 4th month. And of course December in Chinese is 十二月 (Shí’èr yuè). 月 Yuè is usually right behind the numbers of months.

As you see, applying numbers helps make learning Mandarin far more easy!

Below are all 12 months flash cards that we have created for practicing both Gemmy and Affy. These cards are colorful in order to make learning simple, easy and entertaining. They include vocabularies in 3 languages which are English, Mandarin Chinese and Thai.  For my own teaching experience with my kids, these lovely cards turn learning into playing quite well. Moreover, they are all free printable!!! If interested, just download and print them out. Don’t forget keeping these handy months flashcards with you on the go, kids will always be ready to learn more.

Actually, I have created many flash cards in various categories (you can find more from this site). I believe that after integrating all flashcards learning into your child daily routine, Tri lingual will always be automatically present in their mind. Remember, practice makes perfect!

According to below video, Affy shown the way to speak along with spell month of the year in English and Mandarin Chinese. At that time, she was only 5 years old. Consequently it is not all challenging as some of you might think. Regarding English spelling and speaking key, if your child is robust in phonics, it’s going to be straightforward. For Chinese, you simply teach your kids number 1-12 then 12 month in Chinese language will be completely easy. For Thai, it is a little bit harder compared to prior 2 languages. Keep practicing. :)

Here is Affy’s video clearly show how to say day of the week in English together with Mandarin Chinese. We certainly have Affy keep rehearsing through the use of days flash cards seeing that anyone can download from below image for free. These cards composed of 3 languages which are English, Chinese and Thai.

ddPresent day Chinese language names for the days of the week based on a basic numerical sequence. The word for ‘week’ (‘week’ is 星期 xīngqī ) is accompanied by a number showing the day:

‘Monday’ generally is ‘week one’. That means Monday in Chinese is 星期一 Xīngqí yī,

‘Tuesday’ is ‘week two’, and so on. The exception to this rule is Sunday, where 天 tiān or 日 rì , both indicating ‘day’, are used instead of number (日 rì is sort of more formal than 天 tiān). You need to be careful. It’s not read xīngqīqī, it’s xīngqīrì or xīngqītiān.

The above final video, Affy express the date in Mandarin Chinese.
In Western countries people generally convey the date as March the 13th,2016, hence the order could be month, day, year (月,日,年 Yuè, rì, nián) correct?

However in Chinese, people would rather place the common prior to the specific, consequently with dates, the year is commonly used ahead of the month and also the month before the day. Which means that indicating dates in Chinese is fairly easy, you only need to remember year means 年 (nián), month means 月 (Yuè) and day means 日 (rì), and the order nián-yuè-rì.

Please practice saying below example along with the above video. Let’s try together.

English : My Birthday is May 6

Mandarin : 我的生日是5月6日 (Wǒ de shēngrì shì 5 yuè 6 rì)

Birthday in Mandarin is 生日 (shēngrì)

English Today is December 6

Mandarin : 今天是12月6日 (Jīntiān shì 12 yuè 6 rì)

Today in Chinese is 今天 (Jīntiān)

That is a great class! At this point you really understand exactly why the earlier lessons concerning learning Chinese numbers was very essential!
